Thanks to Chase Jarvis I found out about Julien Smith today. Among other things, Julien is an author who “helps people live more productive, awesome lives.” I read some of his stuff, including his blog post The Complete Guide to not Giving a Fuck, which for the most part I don’t, but one area where I’m not being honest enough with people (indeed I keep this a secret from everyone) is my personal goal.
You read that correctly, I only have one goal, but it’s a doozy – everything else is a means to this end (which isn’t really the end, but…). My goal is to let go of all my bullshit and exist as the epitome of my reflection of the truth. I, we, are all but a small reflection of truth and it is in our unity that the truth exists. Like a mirror that has been cleared away of all its smudges, it is my goal to be the perfect me. The hardest part is that I don’t even know what that means, but I do know that it is the reason I exist. In fact, it is my understanding that is why we all exist. Scratch that – it’s not why we exist. It is existence itself.
My hurdle is physical. I have lived a very inner life. Mind and Spirit – check. Body…not so much. Don’t get me wrong, I’m physically capable, but I have a lot of work to do. I was well into my 30’s before I discovered I had never learned proper posture; that I have over developed certain muscle groups and severely under developed others. This causes me to feel tension – keeps my energy from flowing properly – slowing my personal growth. The person who helped me with this realization, Katharine Ford, continues to push me to reach my goal, even though she too has no idea what my goal truly is.
Human Beings are amazing creatures capable of the most beautiful – and horrific – things. All of us. Let’s strive to let go of our expectations and live peacefully, communally (figuratively and literally), and love ourselves so that we may love one another. Stop taking advantage of each other because you think of yourself as most important. Caught up in your wants. All you need is love is not just a song, it’s a fact. Love comes in many forms. Strive for it, hold on to it by letting go of it. Strive to be the best of yourself. Fail. Try again. One day we will all get there.
If you made it this far, thanks, I appreciate you. 1love

your beauty fills my heart
and i know.
This past summer my good friend Miles Clark invited me to join him in photographing the Vancouver Canadians baseball team on their way to a league championship. Growing up in the US with a love for sport, including baseball, and the opportunity to continue to develop my skill set as a photographer led me to a resounding YES! It was a good time and I learned a lot about the practical uses of different cameras. It was the first time I had shot sports photography and my Nikon D80 did not live up to the task. I had also brought a Nikon D300 which has the fps ability to at least pretend to be a workhorse for sports photography. Miles, a sports photographer by trade, uses a Canon 1D Mark III and a 7D, two great cameras. When you hear the frame rate in continuous mode on the 1D you can’t help but be impressed. The other thing that really resonated with me was knowing the sport made a huge difference and allowed me to predict where to be to catch the action. Here are some example shots.
wonder is the beauty in life
I love everyone even though I don’t always act like it.
I see more now…
