The Discipline of Faith

Most people think faith feels bold. Confident. Certain.

But what if faith actually feels like moving forward… while still unsure?

There’s a myth in leadership and entrepreneurship that says you need a clear vision before you act. That clarity is a prerequisite. But that’s not what Scripture shows us. And it’s not what I’ve lived.

Some of the most important moves I’ve made—personally and professionally—began in the fog. I didn’t have a 5-year plan. I had a next step. And that had to be enough.

Obedience Over Certainty

When I think about seasons where I felt the most uncertain, they’re often the ones where God was inviting me into the deepest trust.

There was a moment early in my journey when I had the option to stay in a role that felt secure or to walk away and build something from scratch. Everything in me wanted clarity. A sign. A roadmap. A confirmation that it would work.

But the only thing I heard was: “Go.”

Not “go and here’s the result.” Just go.

So I did. And the first few steps felt like wandering. But what looked like uncertainty was actually formation. I wasn’t lost—I was learning how to follow.

Faith Isn’t Always Loud

We often associate faith with bold declarations. But faith doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it whispers. Sometimes it looks like waking up, doing the work, and trusting that God is in it—even when the fruit hasn’t come yet.

Faith is a discipline. A practice. A posture.

It’s choosing presence over panic. Purpose over performance. Obedience over outcome.

And it’s what forms us into leaders who don’t just chase results—but carry peace.

When You Want Clarity, Ask for Trust

If you’re in a season where you don’t know what’s next, here’s what I’d offer:

  • Don’t confuse fog with failure.
  • Don’t wait for clarity to be obedient.
  • Don’t let the pressure to “have it all figured out” keep you from taking the next right step.

Clarity often follows movement. Peace often follows surrender.

Sometimes God reveals the full path. Other times, He hands us one stone at a time. But He always walks with us.

A Framework for Moving Forward in Faith

  1. Pause – Make space to hear what God is saying, not just what your fear is shouting.
  2. Pray – Ask for direction, but also for trust to act without guarantees.
  3. Prepare – Do what you can with what you know now.
  4. Proceed – Take the next right step—even if it’s small.

You don’t need full clarity to move forward. You just need enough trust to start.

A Faith-Rooted Reminder

Hebrews 11 doesn’t list heroes who had perfect plans. It lists people who moved in faith. Abraham went without knowing where. Moses led without knowing how. Mary said yes without knowing why.

That’s the kind of faith we’re invited into—not just belief, but movement.

Final Thought

If you’re waiting for full clarity, you might be waiting forever.

Faith is the discipline of moving while the outcome is still uncertain.

Take the step. He’ll meet you there.
